2026/2027 BASIC SCHOOL CALENDAR – GHANA

 

The 2026/2027 Basic School Calendar for Ghana provides the official academic schedule for all Basic Schools, including Kindergarten (KG), Primary Schools, and Junior High Schools (JHS). First Term (15 Weeks)

The first term begins on Tuesday, 8th September 2026.

- Vacation: Friday, 18th December 2026 to Monday, 4th January 2027

Second Term (12 Weeks)

The second term starts immediately after the Christmas break.

- Closing Date: Thursday, 25th March 2027

- Vacation: Friday, 26th March to Monday, 19th April 2027

Schools are expected to complete the scheduled curriculum while preparing candidates for external examinations.

Third Term (14 Weeks)

The final term of the academic year begins in April and ends in July.

- Reopening: Tuesday, 20th April 2027

- Closing Date: Thursday, 22nd July 2027

- Vacation: Friday, 23rd July 2027 – End of the 2026/2027 Academic Year

This term concludes all teaching and learning activities for the academic year.

BECE 2027 Timetable

The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is scheduled to take place from:

Wednesday, 5th May to Tuesday, 12th May 2027.

All Junior High School candidates are encouraged to prepare adequately and follow all examination regulations issued by the appropriate authorities.

Other Important Notes

- Total Academic Weeks: 41 weeks of instruction.

- Mid-Term Breaks: A two-day mid-term break will be observed each term.

- Public Holidays: All officially declared public holidays must be observed during the academic year.
